Who is this inspiring woman? A woman who dares to go bare face to a public event. Her name is Alicia Keys. The message she is sending to women and girls everywhere is so important. You are beautiful the way you are. Don’t get me wrong, I love makeup; maybe a little too much. But, when makeup becomes a feature to hide behind, it becomes damaging. Suddenly it’s hard to go to the grocery store without putting on a full face. The important thing to remember here is, you don’t need makeup to be beautiful. Alicia is a prime example of that, she doesn’t have a drop of makeup on and she looks stunning! Makeup has become such a big trend, especially with younger girls. It’s almost impossible to walk into a middle school and see a twelve year old with no makeup on. Makeup shouldn’t be a mask, it should be a fun hobby. I wear makeup when I go out, when I go to work, or anywhere I need to look presentable. And that’s just the kind of mindset society has pressed into our minds. We need makeup to look presentable. No, no, no, we do not NEED anything, we wear makeup because we WANT to. And if one day we decide to go into work or class without a full face of makeup we’ll hey, that’s alright. I think society needs to start changing its idea of what it means to be beautiful. Beautfiul now a days is a Kim K booty, Kendall waist and Jennifer Aniston face. And that’s just not realistic. We need to embrace what makes us who we are. I have freckles, and I must say, I couldn’t be prouder of my little brown specks. If you have big lips, thick brows, or big round eyes, own them. Because it is these features that set us apart from everyone. They are what make us unique. That’s what being beautiful is; embracing your differences and owning who you are. That is why Alicia is beautiful, and that is why you are beautiful.
